Access to fast, reliable internet is transforming lives across Australia—particularly in regional and remote communities.
A new report by Ember Advisors, commissioned by NBN Co, reveals that the nbn network is delivering real benefits in employment, education, health, and overall life satisfaction.
The Social Impact Measurement FY24 report found that 76 per cent of users reported a boost in life satisfaction thanks to their nbn connection.
Notably, 85 per cent of those studying from home and 78 per cent of those job hunting or working remotely said their outcomes improved.
Telehealth is also on the rise. More than one-third of users accessed health services from home, with many highlighting the convenience and consistency of appointments. People in rural and remote areas, in particular, shared that avoiding long travel times helped them stay on top of their wellbeing.
Importantly, social connection came through as a major benefit. More than 87 per cent of users regularly connected with family and friends online.
Nearly half said this helped reduce feelings of loneliness or isolation—proof that technology is as much about people as it is about speed.
From a public relations and social media perspective, the findings show how critical digital connectivity has become in daily life. Whether it’s checking in on loved ones or navigating online services, Australians are relying on broadband for more than just streaming and browsing.

The research also highlights progress in digital inclusion for First Nations communities. With 111 community Wi-Fi sites already live—and more underway through a $20 million federal grant—families are gaining access to essential services like MyGov, education tools and telehealth. Among First Nations nbn users, 75 per cent reported improved life satisfaction, and 78 per cent saw better outcomes in study.
As part of ongoing upgrades, nbn will offer full fibre access to an additional 622,000 premises, with more than half in regional Australia.
Meanwhile, the completed Fixed Wireless and Satellite Upgrade Program is bringing faster speeds to 800,000 locations.
Executive General Manager Stephen Smith said: “Fast and reliable broadband boosts industry, creates jobs, enables innovation, and strengthens social and economic participation.”
Across every state and territory, digital access is opening doors. For millions of Australians, the nbn network is not just an infrastructure upgrade—it’s a step toward a more connected, inclusive future.
