Canva has introduced two new tools aimed at simplifying AI-assisted design: a deep research connector with ChatGPT and the Canva Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server.
These updates allow users to create, edit and collaborate on content directly within AI assistants, reflecting a broader shift toward AI-first communication and content workflows.
With many professionals now relying on AI tools to speed up tasks and generate ideas, the need for smoother, context-aware workflows has grown. Canva’s integrations address that demand by connecting its platform to external assistants, reducing the friction that often comes with switching between apps or repeating briefs.
“AI agents and assistants have become indispensable creative partners, yet current workflows require users to manually add context or references, creating complexity,” said Anwar Haneef, GM and Head of Ecosystem at Canva. “We’re embedding Canva directly into the AI tools people use every day so they can brainstorm, create, and publish content faster.”
The deep research connector lets users access and reference their Canva designs directly in ChatGPT. This means marketing teams, educators and small business owners can summarise past reports, extract key information or refine presentations without toggling between windows. Social media teams, in particular, may benefit from faster content generation that stays aligned with campaign messaging.

Privacy and security remain a concern for many when using generative tools. Canva’s response comes in the form of its trust framework, Canva Shield, which the company says is applied to all AI interactions.
For OpenAI, this collaboration reflects a practical use case for AI in the workplace. “Launching the Canva deep research connector means businesses and their employees get faster, better insights because ChatGPT has more context,” said Nate Gonzalez, Head of Business Products at OpenAI. “We’re thrilled to work together to bring powerful AI to many of today’s most important workflows.”
The MCP Server goes one step further, allowing AI assistants to tap into a user’s entire Canva workspace. This includes importing files, generating branded content and autofilling charts with data from ongoing conversations. The aim is to make design tasks part of a natural, conversational flow rather than a separate process.
While the updates are part of a longer roadmap for Canva’s AI features, they also reflect how communication and collaboration are evolving. Instead of AI tools replacing creative roles, they’re increasingly being used to streamline the everyday tasks that sit between ideation and execution—without the need for constant app-switching or manual edits.
