McDonald’s has partnered with Meta’s Workplace to use the platform as a communication and shift management tool.
Workplace is a business collaboration software that Meta developed as an enterprise version of its flagship Facebook app.
“We know the employee experience directly fuels the customer experience—and we are committed to being exceptional in both areas,” said Heidi Capozzi, McDonald’s global chief people officer, in a Workplace blog post.
Capozzi added, “By offering Workplace as a resource for those at the heart of our restaurants, we and our franchisees can make it easier for crew to grow and succeed in their jobs, and to build deeper, more meaningful connections with their teams.”
According to Workplace, restaurant employees in their platform have access to current technologies to help them get the job done in their local establishment.
Workplace claimed that brands known for moving with speed get a ‘big win’ with the tool’s efficiency in reaching restaurant employees.
“In an initial pilot of Workplace in McDonald’s restaurants in Spain, restaurant teams not only found quick success in accessing timely and relevant operational and business information, but also in sharing tips, tricks and best practices in the restaurant.”

A Spanish McDonald’s franchisee, René Mirá, said, “Workplace has been fundamental in helping us communicate throughout COVID, thanking our teams and being able to keep them updated on security measures and changing regulations impacting our business.”
McDonald’s company-owned and participating franchisee restaurants in 11 markets spanning Europe and Asia-Pacific, as well as several company-owned restaurants in the United States, use Workplace to boost employee engagement.
The Chicago-based fast-food giant has about 40,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries, accounting for around 200,000 employees in 2021.
Workplace claimed it has over 100,000 accounts with 85% weekly active users in Australia.
The software also has 73% of restaurant users active every week in Portugal, while it receives 140,000 messages monthly in Spain.
For 2022, Workplace plans to deploy in five additional regions, with ‘ambitious targets’ into 2023, including Canada, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Austria, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland.
