The NBN Sky Muster Plus satellite service now offers more data with significant updates for Australian families and small businesses.
Sky Muster Plus customers can now access “uncapped” data at specific time periods with no extra cost, the most recent of a steady stream of improvements aimed at enhancing user experience.
Australians using NBN Sky Muster Plus can now stream videos and use virtual private networks (VPN) for 16 hours a day, from 12 am to 4 pm, without using up any of their monthly data allotment.
Prior to this change, all VPN and video streaming, regardless of the time of day, counted towards a user’s monthly data allotment.
According to NBN, only video streaming and VPN use will count toward a user’s monthly data allotment between 12 am and 4 pm.
For 24 hours, no additional activities—including online banking, audio streaming, online shopping, and other activities—will count against a user’s monthly data allotment.
Gavin Williams, Chief Development Officer, Regional and Remote at NBN, stated that the improvements to NBN Sky Muster Plus are a part of NBN’s dedication to boosting Australia’s digital capability nationwide.
Williams said, “We know how important NBN Sky Muster is to people living in regional and remote areas of the nation, and that it’s just as important that we deliver fast and reliable broadband access that better reflects the way they are accessing data on our network to do the things that really matter to them.”
“These changes make managing data simpler and give customers freedom and peace of mind to do more with their data.”
Meanwhile, Communications Minister Michelle Rowland welcomed the enhancement, which, according to her, could significantly boost over 108,000 households and businesses in regional and rural Australia.
The minister’s media release said it also satisfies consumers’ growing demand for data, enabling them to access additional streaming and video-on-demand services, unhindered access to live and recorded distant learning resources, and seamless connections with friends and family.
It said, “This announcement delivers on the Labor Government’s commitment to increase NBN Satellite data allowance, unmetering Skymuster usage between midnight and 4 pm.”
The improved offering came after the government’s investment in upgrading and expanding the NBN fixed wireless network, freeing up satellite capacity.

According to Rowland’s release, more improvements to Sky Muster data inclusions will occur once the fixed wireless upgrade is finished, in addition to the initial improvements NBN Co announced this week.
