Amazon Web Services welcomes new Head of Communications for ANZ

Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon’s cloud computing unit, has appointed corporate communications expert Cameron Craig as its new Head of Communications for Australia and New Zealand.

Prior to his latest role, Craig was the Head of Corporate Marketing at smart window company View Inc. He has also held senior communications roles at Polycom, Visa, Paypal, Yahoo, and Apple, with over 25 years of experience in the industry, according to his LinkedIn account.

Craig will be replacing Dan Chamberlain, who was recently promoted as the Head of Public Sector Communications – Asia Pacific and Japan at AWS.

AWS also continues to expand in the ANZ region, recently announcing that it will launch data centres in New Zealand in 2024. The investment is set to create around 1,000 jobs in the country in the course of 15 years.

After releasing an economic impact study, the company said it will be investing NZ$7.5 billion ($5.25 billion) in its new infrastructure hub – AWS Asia Pacific (Auckland) Region.

The infrastructure hub will be owned and operated by a local AWS entity in New Zealand, and enable developers, startups, government, and other organisations to use data centres located within the country.

“AWS supports thousands of organisations across New Zealand in their drive to innovate, succeed, and grow globally,” said Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President of Infrastructure Services at AWS.

“AWS Cloud technology is providing new ways for government to further engage with citizens, for enterprises to innovate for their next phase of growth, and for entrepreneurs to build businesses and compete on a global scale,” Kalyanaraman said.

“Our investments reflect AWS’s deep and long-term commitment to New Zealand. We are excited to build new world-class infrastructure locally, train New Zealanders with in-demand digital skills, and continue to help local organisations deliver applications that accelerate digital transformation and fuel economic growth,” he said.
