New appointment to Australian Film, Television and Radio School Council announced

The Albanese Labor Government has announced the appointment of Fiona Donovan as a member of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) Council.

AFTRS is Australia’s leading specialist education, training and research institution supporting excellence in Australian screen and audio storytelling.

Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, said Donovan was an experienced voice in the industry. “Many Australians will already have watched Fiona’s work on the screen. As an industry professional, she knows what goes on behind the scenes to create memorable film and television.”

“Fiona has devoted her career to the production and support of Australia’s film and television industry and is a strong champion of the development of original Australian content.”

“Fiona’s ongoing work as both a creator and educator in the screen sector give her a unique insight into the challenges and opportunities facing young creatives,” he added.

Fiona Donovan has worked at AFTRS in various roles over the past eight years, including as a lecturer and Industry Mentor.

She has over 33 years in the Australian film and television industry as a professional, advocate, mentor and educator in production and screen design.

She studied set and costume design at NIDA, graduating in 1992. Fiona has since worked in many genres of film, television and theatre. Donovan’s work on A Place to Call Home has been nominated for and won AACTA Awards as well as an Australian Production Design Guild award for Best Production Design in Television.

Donovan has worked on Australian and international feature films including Christmas Ransom, Ascendant, Truth, The Shallows and Pacific Rim Uprising. Her television credits include The Twelve, Frayed, Back to the Rafters, Between Two Worlds, Young Lions, Crownies, and Love Child.
