Karen Markwort

As a communications leader, Markwort is heavily experienced in inspiring action through communication campaigns. In this video, Markwort talks about the varying shades of misinformation that surrounds the reef and climate change in general, and the strategies she uses to steer people closer to the truth.

“Some nuanced message [is needed]. And that’s often difficult to get across offer because the media do like the short and sharp pin set and grab. This means there’s a continuing need to reinforce our role as the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.”

“It also means that our communication needs to be planned and strategic in order to get our messages heard. We need to be consistent, accurate, and timely of course.
