Albanese gov’t names new Screen Australia CEO

Diedre Brennan of Screen Australia

The Albanese Labor Government has announced the appointment of Ms Deirdre Brennan to the role of Chief Executive Officer of Screen Australia.

Ms Brennan has extensive experience as an executive in the domestic and international screen sector, having held senior roles at the ABC, BBC and NBC.

She is currently Chief Operating Officer at WildBrain – a Canadian media, animation studio, production, and brand licensing company.

Previously, Ms Brennan worked at BBC Worldwide Australia as the Director of Television, General Manager and Director of Content. Her former roles include Head of Children’s Television at the ABC TV and General Manager of Universal Kids at NBC Universal.

Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, welcomed Ms Brennan’s experience and knowledge of the screen sector.

“Australia’s screen industry is so important to how we see ourselves, learn about each other and let the world get to know us.

“Screen Australia is integral to that,” Minister Burke said.

“I know that this appointment will strengthen the telling of uniquely Australian stories and I can’t wait to see Ms Brennan’s role in that.”

Screen Australia is the Government’s primary body for the support of development of a creative, innovative and commercially sustainable Australian production industry.

Ms Brennan’s appointment will commence on January 8, 2024.
