Keysight Technologies, Inc. and MediaTek have achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of interoperability testing for 5G New Radio (NR) and 5G reduced capability (RedCap), aligning with the 3GPP Release 17 (Rel-17) standard.
This collaborative testing, leveraging Keysight’s 5G Network Emulation Solutions, underscores the cutting-edge capabilities of MediaTek’s 5G modem technologies.
Interoperability Development Testing (IODT), a crucial phase in validating equipment against new 5G specifications, focuses on establishing and maintaining a 5G communication link under predefined test conditions between a base station and device.
The RedCap interoperability testing, a joint effort by Keysight and MediaTek, confirmed that MediaTek’s 5G modem technologies exhibit robust support for various features. These include early identification, bandwidth part (BWP) definition, user equipment (UE) capability, radio resource management (RRM) relaxation, network control device-synchronization signal block (NCD-SSB), sounding reference signal (SRS) enhancement, extended discontinuous reception (eDRX), and physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) for frequency hopping.
“MediaTek is committed to driving market advancements in 5G NR Rel-17 and RedCap technology. We collaborate with Keysight to develop state-of-the-art 5G modem platforms, fostering a growing ecosystem of 5G device innovators, said Dr. Ho-Chi Hwang, MediaTek General Manager of Wireless Communication System and Partnerships.
Additionally, the 5G NR IODT demonstrated that the chipset is fully equipped to handle Rel-17 features. This encompasses power-saving mechanisms, efficient small data transmission, and enhancements to NR coverage.
This successful collaboration between Keysight and MediaTek signifies a significant advancement in the realm of 5G technology, showcasing the compatibility and performance of MediaTek’s 5G modem technologies validated through rigorous interoperability testing.
“Together with MediaTek, Keysight continues to accelerate 5G NR Release 17 deployment by enabling device manufacturers to perform interoperability tests with the most innovative testing solutions. We keep offering our customers flexible deployment solutions as they gear up for commercial 5G NR and RedCap devices market introduction,” said Peng Cao, Vice President and General Manager of Keysight’s Wireless Test group said.
