Muck Rack releases new tools for media list building, coverage monitoring

Public relations and communications platform Muck Rack has released new tools to help companies and their PR teams build and maintain a successful media relations strategy.

“As a result of shrinking newsrooms and a growing freelance population, it can be challenging to know if you’ve found and added every relevant reporter to your media list. Plus, news spreads faster than ever, which makes it even more critical for teams to keep tabs on media mentions and timely industry news,” said Muck Rack Communications Manager Bailey Self.

Recommended Journalists

One of Muck Rack’s latest innovations is Recommended Journalists, introduced an AI-powered tool that promises to streamline media list curation. The feature leverages a proprietary AI model, tapping into a vast media database, to generate a personalised list of recommended journalists for users.

This not only saves time but also ensures that no crucial media contacts are overlooked. With the Recommended Journalists feature, Muck Rack offers five contact suggestions, with automatic replacements when one is added or removed.

The tool incorporates background filters for precise customisation. As it learns user preferences, it continually refines its recommendations, guaranteeing the discovery of the most relevant journalists.

“In the short time since the feature rolled out, more than 1,400 users across 940 organizations have used it. Overall, 36% of journalists that we recommend to our users end up being added to media lists, which has amounted to 40,000 additions,” Self said.

Coverage Report Spike Notifications

Muck Rack’s new media monitoring feature called Coverage Report Spike Notifications allows users to receive email notifications directly to their inbox when the platform detects an increased volume of articles in an automated coverage report.

The tool relies on AI and machine learning to monitor a wide range of global media sources, covering digital, broadcast, podcasts, newsletters, and print media. It also analyses trends over various timeframes, such as days, weeks, or months, and highlights significant spikes in media coverage.

Muck Rack’s algorithms continually learn and improve to ensure that users receive notifications about the most relevant news stories. This development aims to streamline PR processes and free up teams to focus on strategy, relationship-building, and showcasing their impact.

“These two new features are the next step in our continued efforts to support PR professionals by thoughtfully leveraging AI technology throughout Muck Rack’s PRM platform,” Self said.

Previously, Muck Rack introduced PressPal.ai, a tool for generating concise pitches and press releases, offering journalist recommendations based on the content of the communication rather than existing media lists.
