Victorians’ most hated, most desired apps revealed in new research

Victorians on social media

Australian app developer Elegant Media has unveiled the results of their research, which revealed Victorians’ preferences, likes, dislikes, and aspirations regarding mobile applications.

The survey, which captured the opinions of hundreds of respondents across Victoria, sheds light on the app landscape, unveiling valuable insights into what apps Victorians truly love, those they loathe, and the apps they wish existed.

Top 3 Hated, Loved Apps

The results provide a unique perspective on consumer preferences when it comes to mobile apps.

The survey revealed that Victorians disliked Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok the most. When asked about a non-social media app that they use but heavily disliked, 31.9% of respondents answered the Public Transportation Victoria (PTV) app.

The same survey also found that Victorians wished for a messenger-like app for Instagram, an app that conducts regular health checkups, and an app that does everything, akin to China’s WeChat.

Victorians also expressed that Netflix was their top three favourite apps during the lockdown but is not even a top fifteen favourite these days.

Victorians willing to pay for apps

For many years, social media apps have been provided to users at no cost. However, Elegant Media’s research suggest that it may be necessary to change the current business model for social media apps. A significant number of users in Victoria would be willing to pay a monthly fee of up to $10 to continue using their preferred social media apps.

“The majority 46% of the people we surveyed said they would pay up to 5$ per month to continue using their favourite social media App compared to only 19.8% who would not use them if they were paid,” the research said.

Anushka Bandara, the CEO of Elegant Media, expressed his excitement about the survey results, stating, “The ‘Most Elegant App Survey’ in Victoria has provided valuable insights into the preferences and expectations of Victorian app users.”

“We believe this data will empower developers and marketers to create apps that resonate with their target audience, ultimately leading to enhanced user experiences and greater customer satisfaction,” he said.
