Adobe unveils Spectrum 2 design system

Spectrum 2

Adobe has announced the launch of Spectrum 2, a transformative update to its design system that marks a significant milestone as Adobe continues to expand its core audience.

The update incorporates generative AI through Adobe Firefly to reach new users while maintaining a robust suite of tools for creative and marketing professionals.

Multi-Platform Integration and Product Evolution

Adobe Creative Cloud has evolved into a multi-platform ecosystem spanning web, mobile, desktop, and mixed reality. The introduction of Adobe Express caters to a diverse user base, from educators to social influencers, facilitating seamless content creation.

Simultaneously, Adobe Document Cloud and Adobe Experience Cloud have undergone fundamental product transformations, expanding their customer bases.

With the advent of Firefly, powerful generative AI capabilities have revolutionised workflows across multiple Adobe applications, broadening the company’s audience reach. To meet the evolving landscape, Adobe recognised the need for a comprehensive design system update.

Comprehensive Update: Spectrum 2

Spectrum 2 represents a holistic update encompassing every design element, including iconography, typography, colour, brand, illustration, accessibility, product equity, personalisation, data visualisation, and more. This update introduces three major enhancements to Adobe products, making them more inclusive, approachable, and adaptable across any platform.

Key Features of Spectrum 2

  • Inclusivity and Accessibility: Adhering to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Spectrum 2 prioritises dynamic contrast and brightness, ensuring real-time generation of accessible colours. This addresses varying user needs, allowing for personalised interface preferences.
  • Adaptability and Expressiveness: The design update focuses on more accessible colours that accommodate various colour vision deficiencies. A revamped colour scheme for data visualisation eliminates conflicts, enhancing clarity and user experience.
  • Enhanced Attention Hierarchy: Spectrum 2 streamlines visual elements by removing extraneous highlight colours in common controls, emphasising a clean attention hierarchy. The separation between navigation and content zones introduces depth and elevation.
