Australia has submitted its 8th National Communication on Climate Change and 5th Biennial Report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on 2022 December 22, says the Department of Climate Change, Energy and Water.
The documents give a national overview of Australia’s progress in fulfilling its UNFCCC commitments to reduce emissions and adapt to and deal with the effects of climate change.
The Communication offers a thorough update on Australia’s climate change commitments under the UNFCCC, including state, territorial, and municipal government initiatives.
Meanwhile, the fifth Biennial Report includes data on Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions and trends, forecasts for and projections against the 2030 target set by the Department.

It also features financial support given to developing nations that are parties to the Convention.
Since the Climate Change Act was passed, this is the first national communication the Australian Government has made, providing the first Annual Statement on Climate Change to Parliament and pledging to create a net zero by 2050 strategy.
Out of 51 parties, Australia was the 12th to submit their National Communication.
