Meta introduces Meta Accounts and Meta Horizon Profiles for VR

Meta users will now need to register a Meta account and Meta Horizon profile to access their virtual reality (VR) headsets instead of using their Facebook or Oculus accounts.

Users are required to use VR headsets for accessing the metaverse, which has recently been the company’s key focus with the growth opportunities it promises.

From August 2022, users who have previously merged their Oculus accounts with their Facebook accounts will now need to register a Meta account and a Meta Horizon profile.

Meanwhile, users who access their VR headsets through their Occulus accounts can still do so until January 1, 2023.

After that, they will have to sign up for a Meta account and Meta Horizon profile to continue using their Meta VR device.

The Meta Account

One may access all of their VR equipment and all of their paid apps through their Meta account.

The functionality of Meta accounts will be enhanced in the future, enabling users to sign into additional Meta devices using their Meta accounts.

Users can connect their Facebook or Instagram accounts to their Meta accounts to access integrated experiences across Meta technologies, such as discovering Facebook friends to play games within VR or conversing with Facebook friends via Messenger.

The Meta Horizon Profile

In the simplest terms, a Meta Horizon Profile is a social profile that provides information about a Meta user in virtual reality and on other surfaces.

Users can alter several aspects of their appearance for other people, including their username, profile name, avatar, and much more.

However, each Meta account can only have one Meta Horizon profile.

Users will be able to interact with people like other social accounts socially.

They can decide whether to publish information about the apps they own and their accomplishments, as well as their active status and activity updates, with their followers.

Meta Horizon profiles have three levels of privacy: Solo, Open to Everyone, and Friends and Family.

As part of these privacy options, Meta Horizon users can also make their profiles private.

13 to 17-year-olds’ Meta Horizon profiles are by default set to private.
