Eddie Townsend, Director of Communications and Campaigns at the London Borough of Waltham Forest, talks about what organisations must be able to do to keep their communities connected with them.

Eddie is an award-winning press, public affairs, and communications professional with 23 years of experience in high-profile communication positions with organizations like the European Parliament, the Metropolitan Police, the Home Office and Action Fraud. He also worked with the Government Olympic Communication Department in 2012 during the London Olympics.

The London Riots, terrorist attacks, Operation Yewtree (an operation in reaction to the Jimmy Saville disclosures), and the UK policing’s response to the rise in cyber-crime and fraud are just a few of the high-profile and contentious media handling topics he has worked on. During his career, Eddie has led teams to national awards including PR Team of the Year (2012), Guardian Public Service Award (2018) and LGC Campaign of the year (2019).
