NBN Co has adopted the Nokia Lightspan MF-14, the world’s first 6G broadband platform, making it the first provider in the Southern Hemisphere to use the technology.
Nokia’s Lightspan MF-14 will assist nbn reach their Toward Zero Carbon Ambition by allowing them to meet the future internet needs of Australia with unprecedented capacity, space efficiency, low latency, intelligence, dependability, and power efficiency.
To increase automation and virtualiation, NBN will also adopt Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller which is an excellent choice as it is both software-defined (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) ready.
The software’s open application programming interface (API) also allows for novel approaches to network management through automation and programming.
nbn has expressed its appreciation for the Australian government’s decision to invest an extra $2.4 billion to expand fiber deployment across the country.

nbn CEO Stephen Rue said, “Rapid technological advances will play a critical role in driving the economic prosperity of our nation and in enabling our transition to a smarter, digitally enabled economy. By leading the deployment of this next-generation technology, we can help meet our nation’s data demands now and into the future.”
With the new funding, an extra 1.5 million homes and businesses that are now connected via Fiber to the Node (FTTN) will be able to switch to Fiber to the Premises (FTTP).
Along with expanding its fiber optic network to more households and companies, nbn has just finished lab testing of 25Gbps FTTP technology, which will allow for even faster Internet connections
Faster internet speeds, improved dependability, and energy efficiency will all be made possible by full fiber connections, which will also support more data capacity for the nbn network.
Faster broadband speeds, improved reliability and energy efficiency, and the potential to accommodate more data capacity on the nbn network are all possible thanks to full fiber connections.
Eligible users will benefit from these upgrades by being able to do more things online, including online education, telehealth consultations, stream entertainment and connecting with friends and family.

“Together with our network investment that is pushing fibre deeper into communities and extending fixed wireless and satellite coverage and capabilities, we are helping unlock social and economic benefits for households, businesses and communities across Australia,” Rue said.
According to Rue, this will empower the more than 8.5 million households and businesses connected to services over the nbn network, equating to approximately 20 million people relying on the network every day.
Nokia’s Chief Customer Experience Officer Ricky Corker also said the company is thrilled to continue backing nbn as it deploys more cutting-edge and efficient networking technology ten years after the two organisation forged their partnership.
Corker said. “Using Nokia’s advanced fiber technology coupled with our network optimization and automation capabilities, Nokia and nbn can meet customer demand for a faster, smarter, greener broadband network today and well into the future.”
