Optus to provide the Art Gallery of NSW with 5G connection

Optus is providing 5G connection to the Art Gallery of NSW under a three-year partnership to commemorate the opening of its new art museum.

From December 3 of this year, visitors will be able to take advantage of fantastic coverage and fast downloads throughout the Art Gallery under the agreement.

The partnership makes the Art Gallery one of the first public institutions in NSW to offer 5G access to visitors, revolutionizing how technology, art, and education come together.

Michael Brand, director of the Art Gallery of NSW, said it would enable visitors to the expanded Art Gallery to access enhanced experiences, from interaction with works of art and special commissions to kid-friendly activities and learning spaces.

Brand said, “The 5G technology provided by Optus means we are no longer just a physical space. Visitors will be able to use their devices to enhance their journey throughout the museum.”

“This is just the beginning of what we can achieve together over the next few years as technology and innovation meld with our delivery of the best art experiences in Australia,” the director further said.

The gallery’s Director of Development, John Richardson, expressed his excitement at welcoming Optus as a new supporter of the Art Gallery.

Richardson said, “Optus joins our family of sponsors, many of whom have supported us for over a decade. This partnership will see two iconic brands come together to deliver the best of both businesses to our visitors.”

Vice President Networks at Optus Lambo Kanagaratnam provided that the telco will be constructing in-building coverage seamlessly interacting with the Art Gallery and providing extremely fast speeds, large capacity, and low latency.

Kanagaratnam said, “It is only fitting that the new state-of-the-art expansion is equipped with the latest next-gen technology and we are excited to be partnering with the Art Gallery to deliver this.”

Meanwhile, Optus Managing Director for Marketing and Revenue Matt Williams believes that the development will be a game-changer for creating a more immersive museum experience to bring together art, tech, and innovation.

Williams said, “Our incredible 5G technology will facilitate higher-quality AR and VR experiences for more people simultaneously, creating greater opportunities to bring art to life in imaginative new ways.”

Visitors will be able to view art indoors and outside on the campus when the expanded Art Gallery opens in December. This includes both the newly installed galleries in the new building and the entirely renovated galleries in the older building.

The Art Gallery collection will include recently commissioned works of art that speak to crucial contemporary global conversations from the Asia Pacific region.

The cooperation is only one of numerous technological and environmentally friendly improvements in the new Art Gallery building, created by Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architects, SANAA.

With its brand-new building getting a 6-Star Green Star design rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, the Art Gallery is the first art museum in the nation to receive the highest level for sustainable design.
